Friki FatFoot

FatBike 12,4kg of acacia wood, carbon fibers and lot of high quality parts

Designed and built by FRIKIIMG_1420Frame combines traditional handcrafted woodwork, cnc milling, smart layering of carbon fibers and 3D printing mould for producing strong and light, shaped carbon fiber parts.IMG_1431Combination of these process add to the frame spirit of handcrafted frame, resilient and smooth ride which is tipical for bike from acacia wood, stiff pedal center, which is important for reducing clearence between cranks and chainstay, to allows bigger clearance for fat bike tires. Frame weight just 2.6Kg.IMG_1460Frame was built from more than 50pcs of CNC machined acacia wood parts. More than 2meters of oak wooden pins. Layers of wood glued by epoxy and rainforced by 3K carbon fibers. Formed carbon fiber parts made from 24k carbon fibers, molded in 3D printed mould. All joints made from alu 6061 T6 on CNC machine. Rear structure of frame was reinforced by UD carbon fibers for adding stifness.IMG_1454Finaly, frame was shaping and sanding by hand tools, carving knife and sandpaper. For logging was used method of photo transfer. After wood working, frame was wrapped to two layers of 24g/mm2 interglass as protection. Before final coating, frame was last time sanded and head tube was decorate by Friki Logo. Friki logo was made by laser cutting from 1mm birch wood and curvet by hot steam. Final coating made by high quality satin varnish.IMG_1438
